This is the photo @anniedressner took for song num This is the photo @anniedressner took for song number 10 on 'When Violent Hot Pitch Words Hurt', 'Dirty Circus', which is my musical gripe against domestic grind. I started to write this song in the thick of it, but I finally was able to finish it after those years of two-under-5 was over. I think many creative people struggle with this period of life if they have children. I know I went through patches of depression while they were small, which was hard for everyone. Things got better. And I got this song out of it, which I love very much. Especially the descant mornings and tenor afternoons part. I played it last night at @ccfest @thehugandpint and there was a lullaby singalong in the room, if such a thing is possible; it was gorgeous. It was the brilliant @kerrydevinemusic who made me realise the power of this song. It is a sleepy love-letter to one of my children - a sort of hybrid amalgam of them both, I think. Its real name is '2 October 2020' - all my poems have the date of composition as their title - and it explores feelings of abject failure, the sorrows of getting it wrong.
